Dehydrating on a beautiful Saturday! And giving my dehydrated treats to friends!
Aug 14th, 2010 by admin

Hi,

I am all set to dehydrate bananas, nectarines & strawberries.  Perfect since I will be stopping by some friend’s houses and giving them dehydrated treats.  They all love them and it’s such a nice gesture to show someone you care.  :)

I have a 9 tray Excalibur dehydrator.  9 trays is never enough though.  I will be using 3 trays of each fruit.  Since they are all fruit, you can dehydrate them all at the same time.

Dehydrated Strawberry Crisps-  Go get a bundle of the best looking, big strawberries that you can find.  Clean them, slice them and lay them on your trays.  Close the dehydrator but do not start until you are done with the other fruit.

Dehydrated Nectarine Crisps-  So many of my friend’s love these!  So easy to make, you will not want to stop!
Just get a bushel full of nectarines (organic if possible), and slice them w/your mandolin slicer.
(www.efooddehydrator.com/shop offers the one I use at home).  Wash them, slice them and place them on your trays.  No lemon juice (or pre-treatment) is needed at all.  I have never used it and my nectarine crisps always turn out great.

Dehydrated Banana Chips- Bananas are so easy to do, and your friends/family will love snacking on them!  Best of all, what a healthy snack for your children to grab, rather than chips or candy.
I always wash the banana peel, and dehydrate the peel and grind.  I use it for teas and spice for certain desserts.
Then, slice thinly for crispier banana chips.  Sprinkle a little cinamon, nutmeg or go plain for a truly healthy treat.

Whatever you dehydrate, I know with practice you will be a dehyrating pro.  I have over 37 videos on www.youtube.com/efooddehydrator.  I love showing all my clients & viewers how I dehydrate at home.

We offer many food dehydration products including Excalibur food dehydrators, models 2500, 2900, 3500 & 3900.  We also offer a huge variety of oxygen absorbers (sizes include 30cc, 50cc, 100cc, 300cc, 500cc & 1000cc).  We also offer food dehydration books, stainless steel food dehydrators, accessories, and commercial food dehydrators.

Do not hesitate to ask us any questions at www.efooddehydrator.com, www.oxygenabsorbers.net or call Stephanie @ 518-618-4442.  Thank you and happy dehydrating!

All The Best,

What Am I Dehydrating? Kiwi, Strawberries, Nectarines, Bananas & Apples!
Jun 21st, 2010 by admin

Hi,

I hope you have been dehydrating some new foods.  I have been busy dehydrating 5 different kinds of fruit.  I have done them all many times before, with the exception of KIWI.  I thought it would be an interesting fruit to dehydrate.  Boy was I right!

See all of my 32 videos here – http://www.youtube.com/efooddehydrator

Kiwi is delicious fresh or dehydrated.  It makes a great snack and is packed with vitamins and nutriets*.  I first bought my load of kiwi at the market.  I washed them thoroughly, dry, peeled & then sliced.  You get better every time you peel and slice your kiwi.  Just slice them and lay them on your tray.  They take about 11-14 hours to dry.  We live on the East Coast, so humidity does have an effect on drying times.
(* I have a great fruit chart article that shows all of the vitamins in all kinds of fruits.  I will be sharing with you soon!)

I then wanted to show you how easy it is to dehydrate 5 different kinds of fruit and then dry them all with your Excalibur food dehydrator (which is sell on my website www.efooddehydrator.com).

Strawberries, kiwi, apples, nectarines and bananas can all be in the dehydrator at the same time.  It is easy and so tasty to get your kids eating right.  I also think apples need just a little lemon juice, but none of the other fruits need any kind of pre-treatment.  Just do not leave them out in the air for any significant length of time.

With nectarines & apples, I always wash the skin but I do not peel it.  I use my mandolin slicer to cut beautiful, 1/4″ or thinner slices.  Then I spread on my dehydrator sheets and go about my business.  For nectarines, it takes only about 6-8 hours or so.  Same with apples.  Let them cool on the tray for about 30 minutes.

Dehydrated strawberries are my children’s favorite.  They are easy, fast and delicious.  I buy fresh and local strawberries, wash, cut out the top and then peel.  With a fairly large strawberry, I get about 7 slices.  Spread them on your tray and surprise!  An awesome, healthy treat in about 10 hours or less.  I like to flip mine over about 4-5 hours into the drying process.  (I think that makes them so crispy!)

Bananas are a dream to dehydrate.  I do not use any kind of pre-treatment for bananas.  (Such as lemon juice, sodium bisulfate, vitamin C).  I like to get the slighly green bananas, and slice away.  I use a sharp knife, but some use an egg slicer.  I have used the egg slicer and I think it is too messy.  Just slice, spread out on tray so they do not overlap, and wait about 8-10 hours to dry.

I love using my Excalibur food dehydrator.  There are many models to choose from including,
Excalibur 2400- 4 trays, economy model (5 year warranty)
Excalibur 2500- 5 trays, economy model ( 5 year warranty)
Excalibur 2900- 9 trays, economy model  (5 year warranty)
Excalibur 3500- 5 trays, deluxe model (10 year warranty)
Excalibur 3900- 9 trays, deluxe model (10 year warranty)

I always tell people, all of the Excalibur models are AWESOME!  I would highly recommend the Excalibur 3900 food dehydrator.  For the cost, you get 5 extra years and upgraded plastics & electrical components, and a free copy of Excalibur’s book, Preserve It Naturally.  For $40 +/-, you get a lot for your money!

Please see me at my site www.efooddehydrator.com or ask me any questions at 518-618-4442.  THANK YOU!!

What am I dehydrating today? Take a look-
May 19th, 2010 by admin

Hi,

It is Wednesday, May 19th, 2010 and I am dehydrating yet again.  I proudly use and sell Excalibur food dehydrators on my website www.efooddehydrator.com.  I will take good care of you with all of your food dehydration needs.  :)

Today I am dehydrating one of our households favorites— sliced apples.  I simply use lemon juice and I slice them with my mandolin slicer.  Spray a little lemon juice and spread them on the tray.  I add cinnamon to some of my slices.

These will be eaten up in a jiffy!

I have an Excalibur 9 tray food dehydrator and I would like another one!  When I dehydrate fruits, veggies, and jerky, I truly enjoy myself.  It saves our family money, time and is great for homemade snacking.

See us at efooddehydrator.com and let me know if you have any questions.  THANK YOU & HAPPY DEHYDRATING!

How To Dehydrate Soup
May 13th, 2010 by admin

How To Dehyrate Soup-

Knowing how to dehydrate soup certainly adds a new dimension to those campfire dinners and even allows for healthier, lower cost alternatives to the standard commercial dried soup mixes used in many home kitchens. Avid campers and outdoor adventurers understand the need for lightweight, non perishable meals, and they also know that the cost and quality of many dehydrated mixes are far from homemade. Food dehydrators are commonly used for fruits, vegetables and meats, but also hold the potential for use in more hearty dishes such as soups or stews. How do you dehydrate your favorite soup recipe?

  1. Begin by preparing your favorite soup. Canned soup can be deyhydrated as well as homemade ones. If you are using canned soup, prepare as usual without adding additional water. If you are making a homemade soup, use less water in the recipe to yield a thicker puree consistency that will be faster and easier to dehydrate. Consider purchasing dried meat separately or dehydrating the meat separately for your soup to ensure that the food safety is maintained.
  2. Review the manufacturer’s instructions for your dehydrator. Read the manual for your dehydrator model and use the appropriate trays and accessories recommended for liquids.
  3. Add the prepared soup to the dehydrator trays. Using the appropriate trays, liners and accessories for your dehydrator, add the soup to the tray liners by spoonfuls. The soup should be dropped onto the trays in two to three inch diameter circles no more than 1/4 inches thick. The soup circles will dehydrate faster and be easier to re-hydrate at a later time.
  4. Add the trays of soup to the dehydrator and set the temperature according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Bear in mind that the drying time will depend on the initial water content of the soup and the diameter and thickness of the soup circles loaded into the dehydrator unit.
  5. Store the dried soup in airtight packaging until ready to use. Tightly-sealed storage containers or vaccum-sealed plastic bags work well to store the soup mix.
  6. Re-hydrate the soup by placing the soup disk into a bowl or large cup and adding boiling water until the soup has reached the desired texture and consistency. If you chose to leave out meat or grains such as pasta or rice, add these items before rehydrating and cook the soup until the add-ins are cooked through.

Home dehydrated soups offer an unlimited selection of flavor and options that can be modified to fit various dietary restrictions, tastes and budgets.

New Video Alert! Dehydrating Rosemary with stephanie @efooddehydrator.com
Apr 29th, 2010 by admin

Hi,

We are dehydrating a variety of great herbs this week.  Now we have dehydrated rosemary.  Rosemary offers a variety of nutritional benefits, click here to see our new article.

Rosemary is so easy to grow and maintain, or buy fresh from your store.  It is an essential herb to have around your home.

First, I washed it.  I left the rosemary on the stem because it was much easier that way.  After drying for about 12 hours, let cool down for a few minutes.  Chop with kitchen scissors and hands.

Happy Dehydrating!

New Video Alert! Dehydrating Sage with stephanie @ efooddehydrator.com
Apr 29th, 2010 by admin

Hello,

I have been dehydrating a variety of herbs this week.  The results were fabulous!

See all my videos on food dehydration here- http://www.youtube.com/efooddehydrator

It took me approximately 12 hours to fully dehydrate the sage.  Upon seeing the results, I would suggest cutting off the stems and just dehydrating the leaves.  (If you know of something better or different, let me know!)

Please ask me any questions or tell me what you are dehydrating today!

Happy Dehydrating,

stephanie @ efooddehydrator.com

New Video Alert! I am dehydrating parsley and herbs on youtube.com/efooddehydrator
Apr 28th, 2010 by admin

Hi,

I have begun the dehydration of my organic herbs.  I am starting off with Parsley, as it is truly a super food.  Please see my article on the benefits of parsley.

I have 30+ videos on youtube!  See me at http://www.youtube.com/efooddehydrator.

Dehydrating parsley in your Excalibur food dehydrator is easy and fun.  First, wash the parsley and dry it well.

I suggest just using the parsley flourets, so just cut of the stems with your kitchen scissors.

Next, arrange them on your food dehydrator tray and dry for about 10 hours.

It is easy, healthy and wise to use your dehydrator to dry herbs.  Makes great cabinet spices, gifts to friends/family and to store for the future.

As always, if you are going to dehydrate parsley for the long term, be sure to preserve them in their whole form (not ground).

Please let me know if you have any questions.  THANK YOU!
